What’s the Purpose of Temporary Veneers?

Veneers are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities due to their ability to cover a wide range of imperfections, including discoloration, worth teeth, chips, misaligned teeth, and gaps. However, getting veneers is a multi-step process, so you won’t see the permanent results overnight. Instead, you will need to spend some time wearing temporary veneers. Continue reading to learn more about temporary veneers so you know what you can expect.

Why Do You Need Temporary Veneers?

When your dentist prepares your smile for veneers, they will need to remove a thin layer of enamel and take an impression of them. This will then be sent to a dental laboratory where your permanent ones will be made. In the meantime, you will be given temporary veneers until they’re ready. Here are a few reasons why this is necessary:

  • Sensitivity: When you have part of your enamel removed, your teeth will be especially sensitive to hot and cold foods and beverages. The veneers cover this area and offer protection.
  • Appearance: Having your teeth trimmed down during these two weeks may not be cosmetically pleasing. Temporary veneers allow your teeth to look normal until your permanent veneers can be placed.
  • Testing them out: They will help you to get the feel of permanent veneers before you have them placed. If there is something you dislike about the temporary ones, you can let your dentist know so they can make the changes you want before you have your permanent veneers placed.

What’s It Like to Have Temporary Veneers?

Having temporary veneers won’t feel exactly like the real thing. Most of the time, they don’t have gaps beneath the teeth, so flossing is not advised. Because they are made from a different material than your permanent veneers will be, they may not blend s well with the rest of your smile, but the difference won’t be too noticeable. Your permanent ones will match your smile perfectly, so there’s no need for you to worry.

During this time, you should also avoid certain foods and beverages. Hard, sticky foods, darkly pigmented foods and beverages, and crunchy foods should be pushed to the side. Your dentist will likely recommend a soft diet with foods that will not leave you with stains.

You may not be eager for your temporary veneers, but it’s a necessary part of the process. You’ll be smiling with confidence in no time!
